Inordinate delay in construction of nullah protested

RAWALPINDI: Inordinate delay in the completion of construction work on nullah in Dhok Paracha has added to the miseries of the residents of the area. The tender for the construction of this nullah was announced there months ago and the work was required to be completed by the contractor within 41 days as per date of completion of work given in the tenders. The contractor carried out digging work in respect of this nullah and suspended the remaining work. One or two laborers are spotted roaming around the digging work till evening and later they go back leaving the work as it is. The incomplete nullah has become a perpetual source of nuisance for the residents as every day four or five incidents of slipping and sliding of children and elderly persons into the nullah are witnessed. The market is located to the other side of the nullah and the people of the locality have to move to shops by crossing this nullah. They are not able to cross it and this way the small traders are suffering heavily in terms of their business. The people inquired for what offence they are being punished that the nullah is going dangerous day-to-day due to the growing number of incidents of slipping into it but no heed is being paid for the completion of the construction work. People from all walks of life, social and religious circles have appealed to the Punjab chief minister to intervene in the matter and ensure early completion of the construction work to avert any untoward incident.
