CDA to pump water from Simly Dam

*Capital body appeals citizens to avoid water wastage in peak summer season

ISLAMABAD: In order to cope with severe scarcity of water the capital is facing during this summer season, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to pump in water from the Simly Dam to meet the requirement.The CDA says that with this arrangement in place, the overall water supply to the city would reach 39 million gallons per day, which is the maximum requirement of the city during the upcoming holy month of Ramazan.Generators shall be arranged to provide uninterrupted supply of water to the people during Ramazan, the authority said. This was decided in a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal at the CDA headquarters on Thursday. On this occasion, CDA water management director general and other officers of the Water Supply Directorate were also present. The CDA chairman directed the Water Management Wing to initiate repair maintenance work on 12 pumping stations installed at various locations in the city on war-footing, which were non-functional since long so that the supply of water could be restored from these pumps. On the directions of Afzal, the Finance Wing has already released funds for the repairs and maintenance of these pumping stations, however, in line with the directions of CDA chairman these pumping stations would be made operational within 15 days.The chairman expressed his satisfaction over the availability of sufficient water in the Simly Dam due to the rains during last month and said that there would be no water shortage during the current season. The chairman during the meeting further directed to speed up the ongoing work on different water supply schemes in the city. In this connection, the CDA chairman would personally visit different ongoing water supply schemes in the city during the nest four days to monitor the pace of work. Inspection of the ongoing water supply scheme in Shah Allah Ditta by Afzal would be the first step in this direction. The chairman further directed the Water Management Wing to further improve the performance regarding the water tanker service. In this regard, he directed to dispose off the complaints on daily basis.On the occasion, the chairman appealed to the residents of the capital to be particular and calculated about the use of water to avoid water scarcity during the ongoing summer season.
