Mushahid tables adjournment motion against metro bus project

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q Secretary General Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has filed an adjournment motion in the upper house of parliament against Metro Bus Project, says a statement on Sunday. The motion, mentioning media reports, says that the MetroBus Project has been launched in Islamabad in violation of Section 12 of the Environment Protection Act, 1997. Mushahid, who represents the capital territory in the upper house, said that the beauty, environment and greenery of the city were all threatened by the manner in which the project was being bulldozed in violation of laws, rules and regulations. “The act clearly states that an environment impact assessment has to be submitted and approved by the Environment Protection Agency prior to launch of any such project,” he said. Additionally, he said, probably for the first time in the history a project for the federal capital was being executed by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and not by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), which is relevant agency for this purpose.
