ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Sunday said the government had failed to bring any positive change in the lives of the people during the first year of its rule.
“The honeymoon period is over. You have miserably failed to alleviate miseries of the masses,” a charged Hashmi told a rally at D-Chowk organised by his party against the alleged rigging in last general election.
Hashmi said government has simply put more burden on the common man instead of giving them relief. Problems like poverty, unemployment and terrorism have increased in the last one year, he said, and added that the government has failed to take concrete steps to steer the country out of multiple crises.
Justifying his party’s move to launch the campaign after lapse of one year since the holding of the general election, Hashmi said they gave government one-year grace period so that it could implement its election agenda and put the country on road to progress. “But, now our patience has run out,” Hashmi said, as he warned government that the ‘honeymoon period’ was already over and the masses had yet to see any change on the ground.
Hashmi demanded that the looted money be brought back immediately. “If you don’t do it, then you are simply interested to stick with the power, having no love for the country,” Hashmi declared.
Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed said that a mafia is ruling the roost in Pakistan. “There is no democracy in the country. It is turned into: ‘by the family, of the family and for the family’. Current assembly and government are bogus. It is the outcome of massive rigging made last year in the general election,” he told the rally.
The AML chief said that PML-N government had obtained Rs 300 billion loans within one year. The incumbent government had cleared Rs 480 billion worth circular debt of the power sector but no audit has so far been conducted, he said. As soon as PTI announced protest rally, power load shedding has reduced and the government has started running advertisements on TV channels projecting their ‘achievements’, he added.
PTI General Secretary Jehangir Tareen said PTI is striving hard top bring change in the lives of the people. He said that people voted for PTI in the general election but the party met with failure only because of massive rigging in favour of PML-N.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said presence of a large number of people in the protest demonstration despite several hurdles created by the Punjab government is similar to a referendum in favour of his party. He said future of the incumbent regime is dark. He said his party was using its democratic right for creation of a fair and transparent administrative structure for elections. “Time has come to do some practical work for the betterment of common man and to strengthen democracy in the country,” he said.
