ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Police have devised a comprehensive plan for a search operation in Afghan slums of the city to arrest suspects and those illegally staying in the country.
The plan had been chalked out following the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sikandar Hayat. The main purpose of this operation is to arrest suspects and criminal elements staying in the areas.
Police teams, headed by Saddar Zone SP Jameel Ahmed Hashmi, Industrial Area SP Hassan Iqbal, SDPOs of Saddar, Margalla and Ramna and SHOs of police stations falling in the Saddar Zone on Saturday conducted a search operation in Ittifaq Colony, Dhoke Kashmirian and Mara Abadi in the jurisdiction of Ramna police station.
These police teams arrested 64 suspects and recovered four motorbikes, a 30-bore pistol as well as ammunition from them.
Islamabad SSP Muhammad Rizwan also directed all the heads of police stations to continue the operation and ensure protection to the lives and property of citizens, besides ensuring arrest of mischievous elements.
Meanwhile, over in Rawalpindi, police during an ongoing campaign against anti-social elements arrested 35 outlaws, including drug peddlers, illegal firearm holders, bootleggers, drunkards, proclaimed offenders and a court absconder from different areas of the district.
Some 1,360 grams of charas, 335 grams of heroin, 51 bottles of liquor, four 30-bore pistols with 14 bullets, two 32-bore pistols with eight rounds, a stolen motorcycle and a mobile were also recovered from the detained accused, said a police spokesman in a statement issued on Saturday.
Naseerabad police held Khawar on recovery of 1.13kg charas, while Ratta Amral police arrested Zubair with 335 grams of charas.
Jawad Butt was nabbed with eight bottles of liquor, while Samar Abbas was arrested for possessing seven bottles of liquor. Nadeem was apprehended with 10 liquor bottles. Imran, Javed, Amir Ibrar and Tanveer Akhtar were sent behind the bars for possessing liquor. Meanwhile, Cantt police held Owais and Nizamuddin, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Nadeem, Usman, Aslam, Ahsanullah, Etsham and Abu Bakar Siddique were held for having illegal weapons, while New Town police rounded up Junaid and Israr and recovered a stolen motorcycle. Civil Line police held Babar on the recovery of a stolen mobile.
Sadiqabad, Westridge, Civil Line, Wah Cantt, Chontra, Saddar Baroni, Jatli and Gujar Khan police conducted raids and arrested 12 proclaimed offenders and a court absconder.
