ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday modified the schedule of local government (LG) polls in Sindh and Punjab.
The ECP has now allowed election candidates to withdraw their candidature by January 15.
The commission said that final list of contesting candidates would be published on January 16, subject to any order of the Supreme Court.
The notification stated that in order to “facilitate political parties and others for submission of party certificates before the returning officer concerned; in exercise of the powers conferred upon it under sub-rule (2) of Rule 11 of the Punjab Local Government (Conduct of Election) Rules, 2013 and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Election Commission is pleased to modify the election schedule issued for the conduct of local government elections...”
