Independence Day function held at PIMS

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday arranged a function in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.Addressing on the occasion, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (SZAB) Medical University Vice Chancellor Javed Akram said that the hospital administration and the employees would celebrate the Independence Day in a befitting manner. He said that every countryman should play his due role in the development and progress of the country. He urged the health professionals to work with full dedication and devotion for the people. He said that he would do every effort for the welfare of the PIMS employees, adding that sincere steps are being taken for having piece of land for the PIMS employees to meet their accommodation issue, particularly after retirement.He said that the first convocation of SZAB Medical University, and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) would be held tomorrow (Wednesday). He added that over 1,000 guests from inside and outside the country from various fields would attend the convocation. He said that 58 students would receive degrees and awards while six gold medals would be given to the brilliant students in different fields. He said that the university is recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).He said that over 8,000 patients visit PIMS for treatment of various medical complications daily, including government employees and another patients. He added that best medical care is being provided to the incoming patients in the hospital. He said that several innovative steps have been taken to improve the standard of services being provided in different departments of the hospital, including the up-gradation of the Cardiac Unit, which has now become a state-of-the-art centre. He said that more focus is being given on the research work in the medical university while awareness campaigns through media is also part of the university’s strategy to prevent the people from carrying several preventable diseases. He said that the university has initiated the project of FM Radio for creating awareness on different diseases besides bulletin for patients. He announced that the university would soon launch its own health television channel.
