Pakistan participates in Carnival of Cultures

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan for the first time has participated in the carnival of cultures held in Berlin, the festival that attracted more than a million people from all over Europe and other parts of the world.A contingent of Pakistani community members, including Pakistani students studying in German universities and the embassy officials in their national and regional dresses took part in the street parade, said a press release issued on Monday. A truck decorated with banners and posters showcasing the people, culture, and landscape of Pakistan, fitted with sound system continued to play folk songs of all the four provinces throughout the day along the 5 kilometres long parade route.The Pappu Sain group specially travelled from Pakistan to participate in the festival. The sufi dhamal on the beat of dhols by the group enthralled the audience. They continued to perform along the parade route at different pre-marked places/road junctions. The Carnival of Cultures is one of the leading festivals held every year in early summer in Berlin and provides an opportunity to different ethnic groups to showcase their costumes, dances, music, rituals, culture, and traditions to the people of all age groups.The Pakistan Embassy in Berlin extended its full support and cooperation to the Pakistani community members living in Berlin for Pakistan’s representation for the first time in this mega cultural event. It invited the Pappu Sain group with the cogent support and cooperation of the government of Punjab. At the beginning of the parade, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany Syed Hasan Javed thanked the participating Pakistanis for making it possible to show the world the other side of Pakistan.He said that Pakistan was a cradle of world’s three leading civilisations that flourished in 2,500 to 3,000 BC and land of diverse cultures. This, though a small yet joint effort by the Pakistani community and the officials of the Pakistan Embassy would go a long way to promote the soft image of our country, he added.
