70,000 children vaccinated in day-long anti-polio drive

RAWALPINDI: Over 70,000 children, up to five years of age, were administered anti-polio drops during a day-long drive launched in high risk areas of the city and cantonment on Monday. Under the drive, the polio teams visited eight union councils of the city and two wards of the cantt area, which had been declared high-risk areas, Executive District Officer (EDO) Zafar Iqbal Gondal said. In the recently concluded regular campaign, he said that 711,744 children up to five years age were administered drops to prevent the younger generation from the crippling disease. He said that the purpose for launching the special drive is the presence of people coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially after the sewage samples were collected from these areas that indicated the presence of polio virus. The EDO monitored the campaign and visited various areas to inspect the work of the polio teams.
