Preparations afoot to celebrate Independence Day

RAWALPINDI: The Independence Day preparations have been started as the nation would celebrate its 68th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and national fervor on the 14th.The Independence Day would be celebrated with a pledge to work with zeal for a strong and prosperous Pakistan. The people, especially the children are enthusiastically purchasing national flags, buntings, posters, stickers, and candles to decorate their homes to celebrate the Independence Day. Decorative items are in high in demand these days, including national flags, multi-colored garlands, badges, and portraits of the Quaidi Azam and other national heroes. The business of these items at all the big stores as well as the roadside vendors is on its peak, which shows the zeal of people belonging to all ages.In Rawalpindi, the preparations are gaining momentum as the vendors have set up stalls for the sale of national flags, banners, and picture of the national heroes who struggled day and night to achieve a common goal. National songs are in the air, which gives the message that the whole nation is united. The national flags are being hoisted at the important buildings to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. The day is celebrated all over the country with flag raising ceremonies and tributes to the national heroes. Special prizes would be awarded to those who decorate and illuminate their building at best. Printers and makers of bindings, flags, banners, and badges are engaged in their business.Television and radio networks are airing special programmes to mark the day. Special programmes marking the Independence Day celebrations are being held and broadcasted on daily basis by the Pakistan Television and Radio. The package also includes special reports on Quaidi Azam, preparations for the Independence Day celebrations, national songs, declamation contests, live music shows, feature, documentary programmes, and interviews. It may be mentioned here that the Punjab government commenced a month-long Independence Day celebrations with flag hoisting ceremonies in various cities.The convener of Independence Day celebrations in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) City President Sardar Nasim performed the flag hoisting ceremony at Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) to kick-start the festivities in the garrison city. The Independence Day celebrations are being organised and observed by all segments of society, including government departments, schools, colleges, civil society, as well as the lawyers, and youth wings. According to Nasim, the objective of the month-long celebrations is to make the young generation aware of the sacrifices that our forefathers rendered to get freedom. Nasim informed that speech contests, painting exhibitions, and sports competitions are marking the month of independence. Government buildings and markets are being decorated with flags, lighting and buntings. ‘Mah-e-Azadi’ celebrations would continue till the 31st at the town, district, divisional, and provincial levels in Punjab, he added.
