Trial court tells govt to give FIA report to Musharraf

* Treason court says law requires that all documents related to case be provided to the accused

ISLAMABAD: The special court constituted for the high treason trial of Pervez Musharraf on Thursday resumed the hearing of the case and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to provide the joint investigation report and other relevant documents to the defence lawyer Barrister Farogh Nasim by May 14. A three-member special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab, and whose other members are Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali Khan, accepted the application of Musharraf’s counsel Barrister Farogh Naseem for the provision of FIA’s inquiry report. Earlier, the special court had reserved its verdict over the defence lawyer’s application on April 28. The special court said that the law requires that all the documents related to the case be provided to the accused. It said that the “testimonies” would be recorded from May 22. .The court directed the FIA to provide the relevant inquiry report to Musharraf’s lawyer and noted that it is the “legal responsibility of the prosecution” to provide the joint investigation report and other related documents to the defence lawyers. During the last hearing, Barrister Nasim withdrew the two petitions relating to section 6-A of the Special Court Act-1976. He said that he would present his reservations verbally.
