Capital’s residents decry acute water shortage

ISLAMABAD: A serious water shortage in the peak summer months has made life of the residents of the capital miserable, despite assurance of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) of frequent water supply.With the start of summer, the demand of water increases but the residents are supplied water for a few minutes during 24 hours forcing the consumers to look for other alternatives. Inhabitants of various areas are facing hardships to cope with unreliable water supply at times. Meanwhile, Sectors F6/1, G7/3, G6/1 and I9 are facing water crisis resulting in masses to call water tankers to quench their requirements. The residents of the area opined that due to poor planning, various houses in the metropolis are not getting appropriate supply of the water and the CDA should take steps to ensure the water supply.A resident of F/61, Ali Tahir, while talking to the media personnel said that they are facing water shortage for the last two weeks and are buying water tankers at exorbitant rates. He said that the residents of the area have given numerous applications to the authorities concerned to take notice and resolve the water shortage problem. When contacted, the CDA’s Water Management Wing official said that the water consumption increases manifold during the summer months while unscheduled load-shedding and lavish use of water by the residents are the major reasons of water shortage. He said that the department concerned has also been directed for necessary repair maintenance of water tankers, tube-wells, and water filtration plants.
