Every segment of society taken care of in budget: governor

ISLAMABAD:  Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has appreciated the federal government and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif “for presenting a pro-poor, pro-growth, balanced and investment-friendly budget for the fiscal year 2014-15”.“Every segment of the society, especially the vulnerable groups, have been taken care of as a number of steps for the social safety net, including the Benazir Income Support Programme have been announced in the budget,” he said while talking to the media personnel. Despite economic challenges, he said that the PML-N government had also increased the salaries and pensions of the government employees. Sarwar expressed the hope that steps taken by the government for the development of infrastructure and controlling the energy crisis would yield result.The measures announced for the agricultural sector and the industrial sector in the country would help spur gross domestic product (GDP), increase economic activities, boost exports, create employment opportunities for the people, increase economic activities and help reduce poverty, he added. Appreciating the budgetary allocations for completing the development projects, he said that the government had given a balanced budget in the present circumstances to achieve progress in all the sectors.He said that the road infrastructure would help to provide a smooth connectivity to the people of the remote and far-flung areas. The governor also appreciated the PML-N government for broadening of tax net regime to generate maximum resources for the overall socio-economic prosperity of the country. He expressed the hope that the investment-friendly budget presented by the government would also help restore the confidence of the business community and investors and country would benefit from their further investments. He also appreciated the incentives announced in the budget for the agriculture sector which would help increase textile goods exports abroad, especially in the European Union markets, and Pakistan would get maximum benefit from the GSP Plus facility granted to the country.
