ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Defence is “absolutely not satisfied” with the penalty awarded by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to Geo, which had been found guilty of misconduct, a press release said on Saturday.
This was stated by Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif, the press release added. He said, “We reserve the right to take up the matter at the next appellate level for enhancement of punishment awarded to Geo by the PEMRA.” The minister said, “We are ready and waiting to reply to the suit filed by Geo and fully prepared to defend the charges levelled against the Ministry of Defence and ISI in the court of law.” He further said that Geo is spreading “anarchy through their channel in the country. We are endeavouring for prevention of yellow journalism.”
Reacting to Jang Group’s notice of defamation seeking damages of Rs 50 billion issued by Geo to ISI, Defence Ministry and PEMRA, the defence minister said: “We are ready and anxiously waiting to reply to the suit.”
