CDA takes preventive measures to curb dengue virus

ISLAMABAD: In line with the directions of Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal, the CDA is taking all preventive measures against the growth and spread of the dengue virus during the ongoing monsoon season in the capital.In this regard, special teams of the Health Services Directorate of the CDA have geared up its drive in different areas of the city against the dengue virus. A meeting to review the arrangements about the anti-dengue campaign was held on Thursday, which was chaired by Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed. On this occasion, Civic Management director general, Health Services director, Enforcement director, and officers of the formations concerned of the authority were also present.Ahmad said that complete eradication of the dengue virus should be our priority, adding that special teams of the Health Services Directorate, in collaboration with the other formations concerned of the authority must step up against the dengue virus and play their active role for the elimination of this deadly virus from the city. He said that we should pay heed to overcome the growth of the dengue virus, adding that the anti-dengue teams must ensure fumigation and spray through out the city, especially in the slums and around nullahs. He directed the formations concerned for the removal of shrubs, wild bushes, and trimming of the grass as well as proper disposal of the garbage and solid waste, which are the potential breeding places of the dengue larva. Ahmed directed the Sanitation Directorate to wipeout stagnant water from the roads and streets and issue notices to the violators. The Administration and Estate member directed the Enforcement Directorate to take action against the tyre shop owners, if they do not comply with the Municipal bylaws and confiscate their goods. He directed for the dissemination of informative literature and asked the formations concerned of the authority to distribute the pamphlets among the public inscribed with preventive measures against the dengue virus. He urged the formations concerned to ensure the drainage of rainwater during the monsoon rain spells.Ahmed was apprised that teams of the Health Services Directorate have conducted the fumigation and spray in different sectors of the city, including slums, nullahs, and streams, particularly the potential dengue virus breeding areas, however; he was informed that during the ongoing monsoon seasons, especial teams have been deployed, who would visit these areas and submit reports on regular basis. Ahmed directed the formations concerned to submit the performance reports of the anti-dengue teams to the CDA chairman on daily basis. He has also appealed the general public to install wire gauze on the doors and windows, use mosquito nets when sleeping outside, and covering the pits of stagnant water, sand/mud around houses and destroy the old tyres, and other vessels that store water because these are rich sources for breeding of the mosquitoes. Essential and precautionary measures i.e. by changing the water in water tanks, bottles, bathtubs, money plant, flowerpots once in a week can possibly control the dengue fever.
