Availability of edibles at lower rates to be ensured: CDA chairman

ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal has directed to ensure the availability of daily used commodities and edible items in all the weekly bazaars of the city on cheaper rates with large quantity during the holy month of Ramazan. Member administration Amir Ali Ahmed apprised the CDA chairman that concrete measures have been taken for the availability of edible items in all weekly bazaars of the city, including Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday bazaars of Sector H9.He informed the CDA chairman that during the month of Ramazan, fresh fruits, vegetables, and poultry is available to the consumers in huge quantity on priority basis, adding that he has strictly instructed the bazaar administration of all weekly bazaars to examine the prices of the commodities and make sure that the prices of the edible items do not exceed the approved prices. Afzal directed the formations concerned to ensure the availability of edible items with quality, standard weight, and on approved rates. He further directed to ensure strict security and vigilance as a large number of people are visiting the weekly bazaars.The CDA chairman was informed about the prices of the daily used items of the CDA weekly bazaars, including the prices of potato Rs 68 per kilogramme, onion Rs 34 per kilogramme, tomato Rs 28 per kilogramme, ginger Rs 300 per kilogramme, garlic Rs 92 per kilogramme, lemon Rs 110 per kilogramme, green chilli Rs 68 per kilogramme, ladyfinger Rs 36 per kilogramme, sweet pea Rs 76 per kilogramme, brinjal Rs 26 per kilogramme, pumpkin Rs 18 per kilogramme, bitter groud Rs 30 per kilogramme. The prices of fruits are: banana Rs 100 per dozen, apple, mango Rs 100 per kilogramme, honey melon Rs 36 per kilogramme, water melon Rs 25 per kilogramme, and peach Rs 130 per kilogramme.As compared to the CDA weekly bazaar, the prices of vegetables and fruits in open market are: potato Rs 80 per kilogramme, onion Rs 50 per kilogramme, tomato Rs 40 per kilogramme, ginger Rs 360 per kilogramme, garlic Rs 180 per kilogramme, ladyfinger Rs 50 per kilogramme, pumpkin Rs 50 per kilogramme.
