1,400 cops, 600 volunteers on security duty for mosques

RAWALPINDI: As many as 1,600 police personnel and 600 police national volunteers, private security guards, and ladies police personnel are on security duty in the city on the security duty of 2,206 mosques, imambarghas, and other important places.According to the Rawalpindi police spokesperson, on the special directives of Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Hamyoun Bashir Tarar, special security arrangements have been made for all the main mosques, imambarghas, bazaars, and other public places of the district. Foolproof security arrangements have been made to avert any untoward incident during the holy month of Ramazan. According to the security plan, additional police officers have been deployed particularly to cover mosques and other religious congregations in the district, while special check posts have been established for the checking of vehicles at the entry and exit points of the city. Rapid-Response Squads are also been formed to avert any untoward incident.The main mosques of the city are especially being covered by armed police officers and only one main gate of the mosques would be open for the citizens. The security personnel are also using metal detectors and no one is allowed to go inside the mosques without their body being searched. Plain-clothes police personnel have also been deployed in the markets with the consultation of the traders. Parking of vehicles, motorcycles, cycles, and handcarts near mosques and imambarghas is not being allowed. According to the police spokesperson, all out efforts are being made for the protection of the citizens and best possible arrangements are being made in the regard. The police patrolling system have also been strengthened in the district. Action in accordance with the law would be taken on violation of the loudspeakers Act. Moreover, 248 cops are also on security duty of 21 Ramazan Sasta Bazaars.
