Rs 500,000 fine imposed on profiteers in five days


ISLAMABAD: The price control committees headed by magistrates imposed fines amounting Rs 500, 000 on the profiteers for overcharging and not displaying the rate list of food items during last five days of Ramazan. Rates of the food items have been fixed for the month of Ramazan and the rate list is being issued to the shopkeepers for strict provision by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration. As many as 22 price control committees, headed by the magistrates are carrying out daily price checking during Ramazan. Assistant Commissioner (Secretariat) Waqas Rashid informed that the ICT administration would ensure provision of food items at the control rates during Ramazan and no one would be allowed to indulge in overcharging and profiteering in any case. Similarly, the quality of food items was also being ensured. Assistant Commissioner (Industrial Area), Nouman Yousaf, challaned seven food outlets in G9 Markaz for selling unhygienic food items and sealed one for poor hygienic material. The officials directed the shopkeepers to display the rate list of the food items at shops, at failing, stern action to be taken against the defaulters. Meanwhile, price checking teams headed by AC (City) Kamran Cheema, AC (Sadar) Rabia Aurangzeb, AC (Shalimar) Shazia Qazi, AC (Rural) Maryam Mumtaz, Magistrate (City) Ghulam Murtaza Chandio, Magistrate (Secretariat) Ali Javed and Magistrate (Rural) Nisha Ishtiak, imposed heavy fines amounting Rs. 80,000 on the profiteers for overcharging, on Friday during price checking in their jurisdictions.
