Electricity shortfall surges to 3000mw

ISLAMABAD: The electricity shortfall surged to 3000mw on Saturday, adding to the miseries of the power consumers who are not only bearing the brunt of skyrocketing power tariff but also the unannounced power outages for the last many days. The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) said that power generation remained at 10700mw on Saturday, causing a shortfall of 3000mw as demand stood at 13700mw. Power generation from hydel sources stood at 3150mw, thermal 1570mw, IPPs 5980mw while 20mw was produced through wind sources. The IRSA has reduced Terbella indent to 35000 from 47000 cusecs, the NTDC said. Reportedly, 12 to 14 hours of unannounced and unscheduled load shedding was recorded on Saturday in rural areas, while up to 10 hours of cuts in the cities were observed, causing the water shortage in many urban areas.
