Govt ‘regrets’ remarks about army

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid has categorically denied media reports that the government’s decision to reject the request of Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf for removing his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) was taken after consultations with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif. The minister further said that some of the statements and interviews, appearing in a section of media in this context, were therefore unwarranted and unnecessary. He said that the government firmly believes that the armed forces of Pakistan are a national institution and dignity of this institution “cannot be compromised in any manner, whatsoever”. “Any insinuation, oblique or direct remarks about the institution are therefore regrettable,” he said.
