ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday made it loud and clear that the masses will have to bear up to 10 hours of power load shedding during the next two months, while there would be no power cuts at `Sehri’ and `Iftar’ timings during the holy month of Ramazan.
Addressing a press conference, Khawaja Muhammad Asif also declared that power thieves and defaulters were staging protests against load shedding, as they wanted free-of-cost electricity directly through the ‘kunda system’.
He further said that power theft continued with the connivance of “our staff”. Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid and State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali also attended the conference.
Talking about the recovery of outstanding power dues, Asif said the government itself was a big defaulter, while they have to recover dues until June 30 as a target. Around Rs 3.2 billion had been recovered in the recent operation against defaulters, he said.
“We will close electricity feeders and remove power transformers from areas where there will be no recovery of electricity bills,” Asif declared.
Announcing a respite for consumers, the power minister also made it clear that there would be no load shedding during Sehri, Iftar and Taraweeh hours in the holy month of Ramazan.
Abid Sher Ali also said that currently there was a reduction in power load shedding, as up to 16 hours of power cuts were made in July last. He said that the power situation during the holy month would be stable.
