Energy crisis: traders agree to close markets at agreed timings

ISLAMABAD: A meeting to discuss various modalities for conservation of energy in the city was held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters on Friday.The meeting was chaired by CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal. It was also attended by the Islamabad chief commissioner, representatives of the Islamabad police, IESCO, office-bearers of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), representatives of various traders’ organisations and Jamiat-al-Quraish.Different modalities for the conservation of energy were discussed during the meeting. The representatives of the ICCI and trade association extended their full cooperation for energy conservation, and assured that they would fully cooperate in this matter as it is a national issue. They agreed to the closure of markets at a mutually agreed time to enable the government to overcome the energy crisis.The office-bearers agreed to close the markets at such mutually agreed timings which would not hurt the shopkeepers or traders, or the customers. They demanded that unscheduled load-shedding should be ended so that the traders could do their business without any difficulty. They said that they would fully cooperate with the government, and assured to save the targeted electricity.
