Utility services to be shifted from metro project route: commissioner

* DCO orders beefing up of security of important buildings

RAWALPINDI: The government departments have been directed to expedite their work regarding the shifting of various utility services from the route of the metro bus service and ensure close coordination among them.According to commissioner and metro bus service Project Director Zahid Saeed, the project would be completed within the scheduled time. The commissioner said that the government departments have been directed to provide clear track to the companies engaged in the construction work of the project. The contractor companies have also been directed to ensure immediate removal of debris and take steps to control dust, besides maintaining speedy construction work so that the difficulties being faced by the citizens could be minimised.The departments and contractors are working on 24-hour basis for the completion of the project, and a special committee formed in this regard would review the pace of work on this important mega project on weekly basis, he added. He said that the authorities have been directed to pay special attention to the safety and security of the labourers working on the construction sites. He said that proper reflector boards and warning lights should be installed to prevent any mishap along the way.Meanwhile, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar Dal has ordered beefing up of security of all sensitive installations of the city, especially on VVIP route and the metro bus project.Chairing a meeting with the city police, VVIP security, traffic police, Rescue 1122, and other law enforcement agencies officials, the following orders were given by him on Monday. The DCO said that the security of at all important buildings, airport, PAF base, and sites of the metro bus project be ensured. He directed the law enforcement agencies to take concrete measures for the protection of the people.
