Turkey assures support to PRCS during disasters, peace time



ISLAMABAD: Turkish government and Turkish Red Crescent Society will fully support Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) initiatives during the disaster as well as the peace time, Turkish ambassador Babur Girgin told PRCS Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi during his visit to the PRCS national headquarters. Welcoming the ambassador to the PRCS, Elahi thanked the people of Turkey and the Turkish Red Crescent Society for their support and assistance to Pakistan in the times of need. He said that Turkey is among the first countries to respond to any disasters in Pakistan be it the earthquake of Oct 2005 or floods. He said that the cooperation between the Pakistan Red Crescent and Turkish Red Crescent will be further extended as two national societies can build better models of humanitarian relief and respond to natural disasters not only at the national level but also at the international level. The chairman briefed the ambassador about the new initiatives of the society including ambulance service 1030 for Islamabad, increasing volunteers to 5 million by 2016 and free mobile health clinics for the underserved areas.
