Obama vows intelligence cooperation to Merkel

WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama told German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday that he would be in touch about ways to improve US-German intelligence cooperation after a spy row damaged relations between the two allies.

Obama spoke to Merkel about their countries' bilateral relations as well as the conflict in Ukraine and talks between Iran and Western powers about Tehran's nuclear program, the White House said in a statement.

"The president and the chancellor ... exchanged views on US-German intelligence cooperation, and the president said he'd remain in close communication on ways to improve cooperation going forward," the statement said.
