38 injured as train derails in Philippine capital region

MANILA: At least 38 people were injured after a Metro Rail Transit passenger train derailed along a highway trunk in Pasay City, Philippines capital region of Metro Manila, on Wednesday afternoon.
All victims have been brought to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to Pasay City police chief Florencio Ortilla. Ortilla said a MRT-3 coach derailed around 3 p.m. at the Taft Station in Pasay city. No one was reported killed. But the police chief could not confirm what triggered the incident, saying the investigation is still going on. Philippine Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Abaya said in a television interview that the derailed train initially stalled between the Magallanes and Taft stations in Pasay city. The coupling of two trains could have caused the problematic train to slam through a steel barricade of the Taft Avenue Station.
