Bangladesh have clinched their first-ever series win over Pakistan with a brilliant performance. On the other hand, the crisis-stricken Pakistan team was seen struggling against inherent flaws as well as new challenges. The team consists of some young players who lack experience and ability to cope with pressure at international venues. Unfortunately, Pakistan has been denied any home series since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009. This ongoing isolation has badly affected the performance of players. The new-look Pakistan led by Captain Azhar Ali were seen struggling to find the gaps for rotating the strike. The collapse of the top order and subsequent failure of the middle order batsmen in both games is a cause of concern. Unexpectedly, Azhar batted well in both games, yet he failed to bring victory for Pakistan. Young talent like Harris Sohail, Muhammad Rizwan and Saad Nasim tried their best to seal victory but they failed to save Pakistan from a second consecutive defeat. In the last two games, the bowling weaknesses of the team were badly exposed. Except Wahab Riaz, the rest of the bowlers failed to trouble the hosts. Even Riaz did not bother to change his tactics and relied mostly on short pitched bowling. Experienced spin maestro Saeed Ajmal was not so effective with his remodelled bowling action. He conceded more than five runs per over and took a single wicket in both matches. No doubt, Bangladesh outclassed Pakistan in every area of the game. The hosts took full advantage of playing on home ground and performed superbly. Tamim Iqbal made two consecutive centuries that made it easy for the hosts to defeat the most unpredictable team in the world of cricket. Bangladesh became successful in winning a series against Pakistan after 16 years, which is no mean achievement. Pakistan needs massive improvement in all areas of the game. The new Pakistan captain has held poor fielding responsible for the defeats besides other flaws. The team is in a rebuilding process after the retirement of some experienced players and needs time to polish the newly inducted talent. Pakistan needs to focus on its weak points in batting and fielding. The lack of tours by international teams can be resolved through diplomatic moves and improving security conditions in the country but in-house rectification canot be ignored. Team selection should be purely based on merit. The inclusion of talented Fawad Alam and other young players is a good decision. They should be given a chance to show their full talent. They should only be dropped if they persistently fail to perform. Pakistan should make serious efforts to end its fielding, bowling and batting woes. No doubt, our team has been in serious crisis, hence it should be given time to find better combinations to regain our lost glory. *
