KARACHI: The special powers of Sindh Rangers restricting to Karachi only is a discrimination with Sindh, as criminals are also in other parts of the province, which should also be nabbed, said speakers at a pro-Rangers’ powers demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Sunday. A large number of people, carryings banners and flags, attended the demonstration organised by the Pasban-e-Pakistan. While addressing the protestors, Pasban vice president and president of Karachi Organising Committee, Tariq Chandiwalla, said that Pasban wanted equal law enforcement in the entire Sindh, including Karachi, without any discrimination. He asked why the rulers of Sindh province are opposed to the Rangers’ action in the province. He said extortionists, dacoits and target killers are being patronised in Sindh and unless action is taken against them, a lasting peace cannot be established in city. Pasban Vice President Abdul Hakim Quaid said that Karachi cannot be ruled while sitting in Larkana adding that history shows that the only those nations progressed that have ensured upholding of law and did not discriminate between weak and powerful. He said that rulers have made double standards of laws and their implementation. The rulers themselves are afraid and they cannot move without bulletproof vehicles, as they also address rallies behind the bulletproof glasses, he said. Abdul Hakim Quaid said criminal mafias should be eliminated from the entire country including Sindh. Pasban Karachi Organising Committee member Sardar Zulfiqar said that it is necessary to make Karachi a separate administrative province. The rulers of Sindh have been discriminating between Karachi and Sindh and we reject the pressure to stop the Rangers from taking action again criminal elements of Sindh, he said. The discrimination in laws, trials and punishments should not be tolerated and actions against criminals should not be limited to one city or one area, he added. The protestors demanded end to the VIP culture and double standard of law for the rich and poor. On a separate note, the business community members of metropolis have threatened to organise sit-ins and protests if Sindh government did not extend the authority granted to Sindh Rangers. The members of business community said that Rangers should be given authority until crime rate in the province gets curbed adding that the provincial government should ensure punishments of the criminals arrested by the law enforcement agencies instead of placing hindrance in the functioning of the Rangers. The members belonging to business community demanded that the authority granted to Rangers should be extended at the earliest by Sindh government in order to ensure the stability of law and order in the entire province otherwise the traders would be forced to organise protests against the government. The locals belonging to Lyari hit the roads of the area while raising slogans in the favour of Rangers. The residents of Lyari organised a protest at Maripur Road in favour of Rangers. The demonstrators said that the Rangers played an important role in establishing peace in Lyari and their powers should be extended.
