A deadlock still persists over the de-seating of 28 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf lawmakers through motions submitted by the Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Muttahida Qaumi Movement. The Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leadership has announced further internal party deliberations on the issue after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked Maulana Fazlur Rehman again to withdraw the motion. In fact the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has asked both parties to withdraw their motions. If they do not, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has announced the government’s decision to oppose the resolutions. The Pakistan People’s Party and Jamaat-e-Islami have declared that they would also oppose the resolutions if voting were held. Different political parties are coming up with their respective stances over the de-seating issue. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on its part staged a walkout and boycotted the National Assembly proceedings in the wake of indecisiveness of the House. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has announced that they will not attend parliament until a decision is finalised on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf legislators. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s boycott of parliament now is not a sensible decision. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf should get rid of its rigid attitude and remain a part of parliament. At the request of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, the Speaker has deferred till August 6 the matter of voting on the motions. Our worthy members of parliament have already wasted too much of the country’s time on petty and fruitless issues. Voting on the motions too will be a futile exercise, when its results are obvious. This is uncalled for wrangling and must be abandoned once and for all. Everybody knows why the Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Muttahida Qaumi Movement are prolonging the issue. Both parties want to undermine the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf because the latter has proved a strong rival to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamiat-i-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl in their strongholds in Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively. It is time for all parliamentarians to move on and work on real issues faced by the people. *
