Bring LFO into parliament: Baloch
Staff Report
LAHORE: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Deputy Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said on Monday that the Legal Framework Order (LFO) should be discussed in Parliament because constitutional amendments needed to be approved by the National Assembly.
Addressing the Defah-e-Ummat Conference, Mr Baloch said even the Supreme Court was not authorised to amend the Constitution, let alone a single person. He said the MMA wanted to make Parliament strong.
“If President General Pervez Musharraf wants to dissolve the NWFP assembly he can, but we will not condone these unconstitutional tactics. We will fight for the supremacy of the Constitution”, he said.
Mr Baloch said military dictators had divided the nation and they were responsible for Muslims’ decline. “They are acting on a US agenda, they do not know that the US is using them and damaging Pakistan. Military rule has damaged our solidarity and the Army must return to its barracks”. He said former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and President Musharraf had committed the same crime by revealing Pakistan’s secrets.
Jamaat-e-Islami NWFP Ameer Muhammad Abraham and Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Muhammad Javed Kasoori also spoke.
