Ahmedzais to give wanted men to govt
WANA: In what could be described as an important development in South Waziristan, the Kakakhel tribe on Sunday announced it would hand over wanted men belonging to the tribe to the authorities.
The announcement came after Political Agent Asmatullah Gandapur and Kakakhel tribe chief Malik Bakhan held another round of talks on Sunday. The Kakakhel tribe is a sub-tribe of the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe.
The government had been pressing the Ahmedzai Wazir tribe to hand over wanted men from its sub-tribes to the government but it had been reluctant to accept responsibility for its sub-tribes.
Malik Bakhan said that Gandapur had agreed that sub tribes would be responsible for handing over wanted men to the government. He said dialogue with the authorities would not yield results if the government did not lift economic sanctions imposed on tribesmen.
Bakhan said that Gandapur had agreed to lift sanctions in a few days. It was decided that if a sub-tribe failed to turn a wanted man over to the authorities, other tribes would try to persuade it tribe to do so.
Meanwhile, militants fired three rockets at a military residential area in Zerrikhor. No loss of life or property was reported. online
