28,000 houses surveyed by UEP so far
SHEIKHUPURA: The government has announced free education up to the matriculation level in the district, said District Coordination Officer Tariq Najeeb Najmi on Saturday. The DCO told Daily Times that the Universal Education Programme (UEP) has conducted a door-to-door survey to register children up to 15 years of age. The survey has been planned at the union council and village level, said Mr Najmi. Presently, all data is being computerised, said Mr Najmi, adding that out of the 30,465 houses of the district, 28,000 houses have been surveyed. The survey would be completed by mid August, he said. The main objective was to improve the education standards and increase literacy in the district, said the DCO. He said the government also planned to create job opportunities for the educated people. This would encourage parents to enrol their children in schools, said Mr Najmi. staff report
