Javed Hashmi’s case adjourned
ISLAMABAD: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday did not take up the bail application by Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy president, in a mutiny case due to a shortage of time.
The bench consisting of justices Abdul Hameed Dogar and Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi adjourned the case for an indefinite period but directed Attorney General Makhdoom Ali Khan to ensure the timely hearing of Hashmi’s petition which was lying pending in the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court. Hashmi has challenged his conviction in that petition.
Petitioner Counsel Muhammad Akram Sheikh said that neither the High Court nor the Supreme Court were not taking up Hashmi’s cases. Special State Prosecutor Munir A Bhatti suggested Sheikh withdraw the cases. The suggestion enraged Sheikh who said that Hashmi moved the court for justice and not for withdrawal of cases. staff report
