Water shortage and undeclared power cuts hit DHA residents
Staff Report
KARACHI: Defence Housing Authority (DHA) residents on Friday complained about an acute water shortage and undeclared power breakdowns in their area.
They also criticised the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s attitude towards them, and urged the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to provide water to Defence.
“We requested the MD of KWSB to set a meeting, but he did not pay any attention to our request,” said Aziz Suharwardy, the general secretary of the Defence Association Coordination Committee (DACC), talking to this reporter.
He said the residents had been facing a water shortage and undeclared power cuts for some days. They were forced to buy water from water tankers, he added.
Mr Suharwardy said that it was the responsibility of the DHA to contact KWSB officials to resolve the water problem. “Several complaints have been made to the officials concerned but to no avail,” he added.
It is learnt that the most affected areas are phases V and VI and Sea View, where people have been facing a water shortage over the past ten days, during which residents say they have received not a single drop. Some of the affected residents have sent a letter to the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to take necessary action against the water shortage and undeclared power cuts in Defence. They have criticised the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s and the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation’s (KESC) attitude toward them, and alleged that both authorities have failed to provide basic facilities to them.
