President and Jamali discuss NSC
ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali on Thursday met at Army House in Rawalpindi, official sources said. Prime Minister Jamali told President Musharraf about the parliament’s approval of the National Security Council (NSC) bill. The president applauded the treasury members’ efforts in getting the bill passed in the National Assembly. President Musharraf said forming the NSC would help bring about equilibrium in powers and hoped democratic institutions would function within their limits. Mr Jamali said all government allies had supported getting the bill approved by parliament and was optimistic that the senate would also approve the bill. Sources said matters including the cabinet’s expansion and enlisting allied parties with the government also came under discussion. Mr Jamali also updated President Musharraf on the latest developments regarding the unification of all PML factions, saying the unification would strengthen democracy in Pakistan. President Musharraf and the prime minister vowed not to allow terrorists to operate against other countries from Pakistani soil. —Online
