Rs 53m allocated for Gulberg roads: Amer

LAHORE: The maintenance and broadening of roads is important to ease the traffic in Lahore and Rs 53 million has been allocated for this purpose, said district nazim Mian Amer Mehmood.
He announced this in a meeting with the managing director and chief engineer of the Traffic Engineering & Planning Authority (TEPA), LDA chief engineer and other officials on Wednesday.
He said that Gulberg Road, from Liberty Market to Hussain Chowk, was being developed and the installation and maintenance of streetlights would be completed soon. Meeting participants said that Tariq Road, Ghalib Road, Hussain Chowk, Gormangat Road and roads behind United Christian Hospital would also be maintained and broadened to ease the flow of traffic in the city. The officials were told that the LDA was funding the road expansion project. They said that the population of Lahore accounted for 18 percent of Punjab’s population, and its constant increase was resulting in traffic problems.
