Pervaiz seeks report on ‘staged’ encounter in DHA

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has taken serious note of a “staged” encounter in which Defence police officials killed two brothers late night on November 29.
According to a handout on Wednesday, the chief minister had ordered the Cantt superintendent of police to submit a report about the incident. Mr Elahi also sought the copies of all first information reports lodged against the two brothers.
At a press conference on November 30, Chaudhry Shafqaat Ahmed, the senior superintendent of police (investigation), announced that a Defence police team had killed Saifullah and Samiullah in a shootout in Defence Z-Block.
The SSP said that Ashraf Chaddhar, the Defence station house officer, had held a picket at Bhatta Chowk when three unidentified men on two motorcycles came from the Allama Iqbal International Airport side. The police officials tried to stop them and pursued chase after they ran away.
The motorcyclists opened fire at the police team in Al-Falah Town and they retaliated. SSP Shafqaat said that two of the three motorcyclists died instantly while the third managed to escape. The dead motorcyclists were identified as Saifullah and Samiullah of Wahdat Colony.
The SSP said that the two brothers were harden criminals and were involved in more than 30 cases, including 24 murders. Sources told Daily Times that the brothers were hired guns and they were involve in the murder of traffic constable Mumtaz Hussain at Kalma Chowk on September 14.
They had also killed the son of a DSP in Mughalpura during a robbery. Both brothers were also suspected of attacking a police mobile van with a hand grenade in Garden Town.
Police claimed the brothers were trained commandos and had injured several policemen in encounters.
