‘Bangladesh arrests four bombing suspects’

DHAKA: Bangladeshi police made four new arrests in connection with a series of bombings in the predominantly Muslim nation that killed four people and wounded 150 others, a news report said on Saturday.

The men, believed to be members of the banned Islamic group Jumatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, were arrested in Joypurhat district late on Friday, area police chief Abdullah Al Azad was quoted by the United News of Bangladesh as saying. Joypurhat is 208 km north of Dhaka. Authorities have so far arrested and questioned more than 400 suspects. At least 7,000 police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in Dhaka to prevent any attacks, Metropolitan Police chief SM Mizanur Rahman told reporters. ap
