Generals take office, meet Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: General Eshanul Haq, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, met President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday after assuming charge of his office.

President Musharraf congratulated Gen Haq on his well-deserved promotion and wished him success in his new responsibilities. Gen Haq thanked him and said that he would do his utmost to live up to the trust reposed in him. General Ashan Saleem Hayat, the vice chief of army staff, also met President Musharraf after assuming charge of his office. President Musharraf congratulated him on his promotion and expressed the hope that under his leadership the operational capability of the Pakistani Army would improve. Gen Hayat thanked him and expressed his resolve to work for the betterment of the army.

Earlier, a ceremony was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters to welcome Gen Haq and a contingent of the tri-services presented a general salute to him. He also inspected the parade. Principal staff officers were also present at the occasion. A similar ceremony was held at the General Headquarters for Gen Hayat and Lt General Tariq Majid, chief of general staff, received him.
