Saudi national arrested for Qaeda links
PESHAWAR: Pakistani security forces on Tuesday arrested a Saudi national suspected of links with Al Qaeda, officials said.
Intelligence officials identified the suspect only as Abdullah and said he gave up without resistance during a raid near Peshawar. They said he had lived in the area for many years and that he had been arrested once before, in the late 1990s. But the officials did not make clear whether they saw him as an important figure tied to Al Qaeda.
Pakistan — a key ally of the United States since Al Qaeda’s attacks on Sept 11, 2001 — has made a series of breakthroughs against the network since July. More than 70 suspected militants, including senior Al Qaeda operatives, have been arrested, raising hopes that the security forces are zeroing in on Osama Bin Laden or his deputy Ayman al-Zawahri. reuters
