Foreign observers to monitor polls

ISLAMABAD: Observers from Commonwealth, European Union, USA and SAARC countries will monitor the local council elections in Pakistan, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad, Election Commission secretary, said on Sunday.

Free, fair, impartial and transparent conduct of elections depends upon the performance of district returning officers, returning officers and assistant returning officers, an Election Commission statement quoted the secretary as saying.

The secretary reviewed the arrangements for elections and stressed maintaining law and order and implementing the election code of conduct. nni
