Seven killed, 29 injured in Baghdad clashes

BAGHDAD: even people were killed and 29 were wounded in clashes on Saturday between US troops and Shia militiamen in Baghdad’s Sadr City.

Two hospitals said they had received seven dead and 29 wounded patients, including five women and five children, after the clashes in the Shia slum.

US troops were continuing to come under “sporadic attacks”, a US military spokesman said, confirming that there had been casualties, but no American ones.

The health ministry said 35 people had been killed and 180 wounded in the capital since Thursday, but it was unclear how many casualties were suffered in Sadr City. He had no casualty figures for Najaf.

A militant group linked to Abu Musab Al Zarqawi threatened in a statement on Saturday to kill Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and other Iraqi officials. agencies
