Drive against illegal weapons starts
PESHAWAR: The Capital City Police has launched a campaign against illegal arms and ammunition in the city.
At a press conference here on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khalid Habib told reporters that the police had made a plan to seize illegal weapons and unearth the hideouts of outlaws in the city. The SSP claimed the police seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Peshawar.
“We will carry out operations in rural and urban areas against illegal weapons,” said Mr Habib, adding, the campaign would continue for 15 days and he himself would supervise it. The SSP said 304 proclaimed offenders were arrested by police so far and the police also confiscated 47 AK-47 rifles, 178 rifles, 71 shotguns, 17 machine guns, two hand grenades, 4226 cartridges, 177 kilograms of cannabis and five kilograms of heroin. —Staff Report
