Lawyers slam engineer’s arrest by FBI

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Human Rights Committee on Thursday protested engineer Ahsan Aziz’s arrest by the Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI).
Protestors held banners with slogans against the FBI. Former LHCBA secretary Shahid Mahmood Bhatti asked for a stop to the FBI’s “activities and operations” in Pakistan.
He condemned Mr Aziz’s arrest and said the FBI had become a state within Pakistan. Protestors asked the government to stop supporting the FBI and US in the “so-called war against terrorism, in which people are not even allowed to exercise their rights as Pakistani citizens”.
Demonstration against Sialkot incident: The members of Human Rights Committee of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) demonstrated on Thursday in front of the Governor’s House here demanding arrest of all involved in the killing of judges in Sialkot jail.
The demonstrators, holding placards and banners, chanted slogans against interior minister, Punjab inspector general of police (IGP), inspector general (IG) Prisons and the interior secretary.
Addressing the participants, vice chairman of the committee Ghulam Sarwar Nahang and Shahid Mahmood Bhatti said the incident was the most shocking example in the history of judiciary. They said the judges lost their lives due to the hasty move of the establishment and the police.
They demanded that the LHC chief justice make the report of the findings public and take action according to its recommendations.
