PPPP demands withdrawal of cases against Zardari
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) demanded on Wednesday the withdrawal of cases against Asif Ali Zardari after Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain reportedly said that a fabricated drug case was prepared against the spouse of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Speaking at a press conference, PPPP President Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that Mr Zardari had already served more than seven years in jail because of fake cases against him. The PPPP president was flanked by other party leaders, including Raza Rabbani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Farhatullah Babar and Babar Awan. He said that in 1997, the then director general of the Anti-Narcotics Board, Major General Mushtaq Hussain, wrote a letter to then Interior Ministry Chaudhry Shujaat saying that the drug case against Mr Zardari was fabricated. The PPPP leaders showed the letter to the press and stated that Mr Hussain advised Mr Shujaat that pursuing the case would damage the government’s credibility. staff report
