SC moved against ban on controversial book

ISLAMABAD: A resident of Faisalabad challenged the Supreme Court’s decision to ban a controversial book, “Deen-e-Elahi”, on Wednesday. Tahir Saleem, a disciple of Riaz Gohar Shahi, had previously challenged the Lahore High Court’s decision to ban the book, but his petition was dismissed. Riaz Gohar Shahi was arrested under the charges of the blasphemy law and was later murdered in jail because of his controversial religious ideas. Punjab government had banned his book because it reportedly contained offensive material that was against Islamic teachings. Tahir Saleem said the book does not contain any material against Islam and Muslims. “The notification issued by the Punjab government is just to please some self-motivated persons,” said Mr Saleem in his petition. It also said that the decision of Lahore High Court was against the Constitution that gave everyone the freedom to express their ideas and thoughts.
