Kerry’s running mate as pro-Israel as Kerry
WASHINGTON: Senator John Edwards, John Kerry’s running mate in the November presidential election, has already declared what side he is on when it come to the Middle East: the Israeli side. Israeli media is playing up a statement the senator from North Carolina made in January this year declaring that Israel has a right to defend itself from “terrorism.”
According to JTA, the Global News Service of the Jewish People, Sen Edwards told its correspondent that “as long as the Palestinian leadership fails to end terror, Israel has a right to take measures to defend itself. Such defensive measures are not the cause of terrorism, they are the response to terrorism.”
Sen Edwards visited Israel and met Prime Minister Ariel Sharon earlier this year. Sen. Kerry said earlier that he would favour moving the capital of Israel to Jerusalem.
There is no American politician, especially in an election year, who would even dream of taking a chance when it comes to Israel. “Democrat or Republican, they fall over one another in trying to prove who is more loyal to Israel,” according to an Arab community activist. khalid hasan
