ARD blasts govt for PML-N arrests
LAHORE Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) leaders on Friday condemned the large-scale arrests of PML-N leaders and workers and vowed to hold a procession on May 11 to welcome Shahbaz Sharif despite hurdles by the district administration.
At a meeting, alliance leaders criticised the government for arresting PML-N leaders. The meeting at the residence of the late Nawbzada Nasrullah Khan, was chaired by PPPP Punjab President Qasim Zia. The ARD constituted a legal aid committee to assist the arrested ARD workers.
The meeting also passed a resolution to condemn the bombing in a Karachi mosque in which 15 worshippers were killed. The ARD leaders demanded appropriate compensation for the families of the victims.
Mr Zia told reporters after the meeting that ARD workers and leaders would gather outside the Neela Gunbad Mosque before proceeding to the airport as a procession.
Khawaja Saad Rafiq said the ARD workers would remain peaceful. He accused the government of ordering newspapers not to publish advertisements welcoming Shahbaz Sharif to Pakistan. staff report
