KESC pays Rs 2.4 billion dues to SSGC

By Arshad Hussain

KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) has made payments of Rs 2.4 billion to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) as outstanding dues for the use of its resources, Munawwar Baseer, Managing Director of SSGC told Daily Times here on Friday.

Mr Munawwar also said that the KESC had paid these payments for months between October 2002 and January 2003, while the February dues were still pending. The MD also said that the power company was using delaying tactics to make their payments, but now SSGC was adopting a system by which dues would be cleared on monthly basis.

The MD also said that KESC was demanding an increase in gas supplies for its recently converted gas plants, which would help the supply up by 240 mmcft till July this year, he said. Recently the SSGC is providing eight billion cubic feet gas to the power generating units in Karachi, he claimed. The MD also said that SSGC would close gas supplies to KESC in case the power company failed to settles its arrears within two weeks.
