Man posing as diplomat arrested
PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested John Coin David, a South African man pretending to be ... a diplomat, on Friday, who was receiving money from a local resident to set up a cosmetics factory in the Hyatabad Industrial Estate.
Habibullah Khan, an FIA inspector, told reporters that David met Shakeel Khan, a resident of Peshawar, on the Internet and told him that he was working as a business attaché in the South African Embassy. He told Khan that he was keen on setting up a cosmetics factory in Hyatabad, an industrial area in Peshawar. David persuaded Khan to give him money as part of his share of the factory and they decided upon a time to meet for the payment to be made. The FIA, was tracking David and at 9:30am, the time selected for the meeting between Khan and David, an FIA team raided the venue and arrested him. David told interrogators that he was working as a diplomat and was a business attaché for the South African Embassy. He also presented an identification card, which was sent to the South African Embassy for verification where it was found to be fake. The FIA lodged a case against David and further investigations were underway. akhtar amin
