Man posing as diplomat arrested

PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested John Coin David, a South African man pretending to be ... a diplomat, on Friday, who was receiving money from a local resident to set up a cosmetics factory in the Hyatabad Industrial Estate.

Habibullah Khan, an FIA inspector, told reporters that David met Shakeel Khan, a resident of Peshawar, on the Internet and told him that he was working as a business attaché in the South African Embassy. He told Khan that he was keen on setting up a cosmetics factory in Hyatabad, an industrial area in Peshawar. David persuaded Khan to give him money as part of his share of the factory and they decided upon a time to meet for the payment to be made. The FIA, was tracking David and at 9:30am, the time selected for the meeting between Khan and David, an FIA team raided the venue and arrested him. David told interrogators that he was working as a diplomat and was a business attaché for the South African Embassy. He also presented an identification card, which was sent to the South African Embassy for verification where it was found to be fake.
